QUT’s 2021 Giving Day has raised more than $1.2 million, thanks to generous QUT alumni, staff and supporters who have backed a range of student scholarships, research projects, and education and community initiatives.

The event is the university’s major fundraiser of the year and was held on May 20.

Last-minute donations are still coming in, with the tally now at $1,239,329.

Giving Day’s biggest donor was Dr Greg Creed – a QUT alumnus who gave $225,000 to support QUT’s Indigenous Chair in Creative Industries.

Dr Creed is a QUT Business School alumnus, a former CEO of Taco Bell and Yum! Brands, and long-time supporter of QUT.

The Executive Director of QUT Advancement, Margo Powell, said 1570 donors and 148 Giving Day ambassadors had supported Giving Day.

“We are truly grateful for everyone’s generosity and their support to help us ‘imagine what’s next’ for education, research and community projects,” she said.

“Our Learning Potential Fund was particularly well supported and received more than $550,000 in donations which will help provide low-income students with scholarships to make their tertiary education journey possible.”

The QUT Giving Day website shows the range of projects supported by the day and their individual fundraising tallies.
